The module has been developed with the collaborative effort of National Faecal Sludge and Septage Management Alliance (NFSSMA) partner organisations under the Training Module Review Committee (TMRC), anchored by National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) supported by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) . The course is designed to facilitate an understanding of co-treatment approach for handling faecal sludge and septage at city/town level. By gaining knowledge about the co-treatment approach, it will enable managers to achieve the City Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) principles and introduce solutions that are financially viable and sustainable as well as use existing sewerage infrastructure available in the city/town. The course is designed to enable the participants to plan for integrated wastewater and septage management, through various national missions namely, Smart City Mission (SCM), SBM-U 2.0, JJM-U, AMRUT, NMCG and the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission and thereby achieving the targets of SDG 6.2 and 6.3. Since, waste management is one of the core aspects of the SCM, this course aims to build capacity of officials from Smart Cities in planning and implementation of innovative solutions for city wide inclusive sanitation services.
