This course offers a comprehensive introduction to Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in project management, emphasising its crucial role in ensuring project success and alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Designed for urban professionals, the module covers key M&E concepts, including the distinction between monitoring and evaluation, evaluation principles, and approaches ranging from traditional methods to participatory and rights-based evaluations. Participants will learn to identify relevant indicators, set measurable targets, and design practical data collection tools. The course explores impact evaluation using quantitative and qualitative approaches, alongside essential tools such as the Evaluation Matrix, OECD/DAC criteria, and various evaluation designs (experimental, quasi-experimental, and non-experimental). Practical skills in stakeholder analysis, mobile-based data collection, and effective report writing are emphasized. Ethical considerations, including research protocols and confidentiality, are also addressed to promote responsible evaluation practices. Developed in collaboration with EvalYouth India (EYI) and the Evaluation Community of India (ECOI), this course features curated materials, interactive activities, and instructor-recorded videos with field experts. Supported by CITIIS-NIUA, this initiative aims to empower urban practitioners with data-driven decision-making skills for impactful urban development.
