While urban core areas benefit from centralized sewerage systems, peripheral villages remain heavily reliant on on-site sanitation systems such as septic tanks and single pits. These systems, when poorly designed or maintained, result in the untreated discharge of faecal sludge into nearby water bodies or open land, posing significant health and environment risks. Therefore this study proposes an Urban-Rural convergence model through co-treatment of rural septage with wastewater at urban STPs.
