Our women staff face harassment and fear. Any policies or field-level interventions that worked?

Night economy is an emerging concept for metro cities. To encourage that safety and security for all genders is essential. Safety to women street vendors can be ensured by the following:

      • Setting up allocated spaces for vending in neighbourhood creating a cluster effect
      • Proper lighting and CCTV coverage of the region
      • Police patrolling especially by female police officers in the area
      • Encouraging use of Himmat app in their phones to raise an SOS call

      Similarly for sanitation staff

      • GPS tracking of their movement during work hours
      • Avoid allocating them work in isolated areas. Rather female workers should be posted in areas with people traffic.

Women staff facing harassment and fear need more than policies—they need trust, safety, and action. A strong anti-harassment policy with clear reporting channels, confidentiality, and swift redressal is essential. Regular gender-sensitization workshops and bystander training help build a respectful culture. On the ground, models like Telangana’s She Teams and Madhya Pradesh’s Safe Tourism Zones show how patrols, CCTV, and SOS systems can deter harassment. Setting up internal safety cells, partnering with local police, and ensuring well-lit, secure workspaces can make a real difference. Empowering women starts with listening—and acting—where it matters most: in policy, in practice, and in everyday spaces.
